The first project in this field, Uchastok Koksovy (Prokopievsko-Kisselevsky coal basin, the town of Kiselevsk, Kemerovo region) was started in July 2002 at an abandoned mine named after Vakhrushev. Commercial reserves of grade K and OS coal are estimated at 14 million tons. Open-pit extraction of coking coals was started in 1998. Before the mine site became a part of Industrial Metallurgical Holding, coal extraction remained on average under 12 thousand tons per month and stripping works were less than 200 thousand cubic meters. As a part of Industrial Metallurgical Holding, the site very quickly became one of the coal leaders by extraction volumes and equipment standards. In 2003 alone, over RUR 120 million were invested in modernisation of production, and investments in 2004 were total RUR 250 million. This all allowed the company to reach the intended extraction capacity of 50 thousand tons of coal per month. Stripping works reach 700 thousand cubic meters per month. In 2003, 345 thousand tons of coal were extracted, the headcount at the quarry was 305 and average salary was RUR 10,298, revenues for the year amounted to RUR 145,068 thousand and net profit, RUR 73,928 thousand. In 2004, as many as 555 thousand tons of coals were produced, the number of personnel increased to 504, average salary grew to RUR 11,142, revenues were RUR 317,544 thousand and net profit, RUR 82,769 thousand.
Although located in the town of Kiselevsk, where housing stock is either decrepit or in dangerous condition, Koksovy mine site moved more than one thousand families from the sanitary protection zone over the past three years. In addition to the open-pit operation, the Holding is also engaged in underground extraction in Kuzbass region. One of the mines Vladimirskay has already been commissioned.
