Born in 1959 in the city of Leninsk-Kuznetsky in Kemerovo Oblast. After finishing school, he worked as a 1st-grade auto repair mechanic. From April 1978 to 1980, he served in the Soviet Army, then began study at the Kuzbass Polytechnical Institute. He began his career at the Komsomolets mine in the production department of Leninskugol, as a mining crew captain. In 1991, he was appointed director of the Komsomolets mine. In 1999, he became General Director of OAO Berezovskaya Central Processing Plant.
Since 2002, he held various management positions in the companies of OOO Industrial Metallurgical Holding Management Company. In April 2005, he was named Director of OAO Ufaleinikel, and in 2009 Managing Director of OAO Tulachermet. Since 2010, he has served as a Member of the Management Board and Managing Director. S.N. Adamkov has been recognized with 2nd and 3rd level «Mining Glory» awards.
